5·18기념재단, 미얀마 군부의 쿠데타를 규탄한다!

5·18기념재단은 금일 새벽(2021년 2월 1일) 미얀마 군부의 쿠데타를 통한 집권과 대통령 윈민트 대통령을 포함한 정부인사들에 대한 구금에 깊은 우려를 표한다.

이는 민주적 절차에 의해 선출된 정부는 물론 국민에 대한 명백한 도전이다.

이 불법적인 행동은 지난 11월 있었던 선거 결과가 조작된 것이라는 군부의 주장에 근거하여 이루어진 것이다.

하지만 11월의 선거 결과는 투표를 통해 표출된 미얀마 국민들의 의지이며 군부는 이를 존중해야만 한다.

이 같은 군부의 행위는 미얀마의 민주주의를 오랜 군부 통치로부터 민주국가로 전환되었던 2008년 이전으로 되돌리는 행위로 미얀마의 민주적 정권이양에 위해를 가져올 심각한 사안이다.

5·18기념재단은 미얀마 인들의 민주적 제도를 굳건히 지지하며 미얀마 군부가 민주적 가치와 준법에 근거 행동할 것과 위법하게 구금된 사람들을 즉각 석방할 것을 촉구한다.

5·18기념재단은 민주적 헌정질서를 쿠데타로 중단시킨 군부를 규탄하며 향후 미얀마의 상황을 주시, 미얀마 국민들과의 연대를 통해 민주주의를 되찾기 위해 함께할 것을 선언한다.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation Condemns Myanmar’s Military Coup!

The May 18 Memorial Foundation is alarmed by the news that the Burmese military seized power on Monday February 1 in a coup and detained civilian government leaders, including President Win Myint. This is a clear defiance of the democratically elected government and its people.

This unlawful action was made based on assumptions that the outcome of the November election was a fraudulent one. The election result was the will of the Burmese expressed via their votes and the military must respect this very will of the people.

This act of the military is a grim issue and will seriously impede Myanmar’s democratic transition, reversing its clock prior to the year of 2008 when the Burmese had made a transition to democracy.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation affirms its strong support for Myanmar’s democratic institutions and urges the military to adhere to democratic norms and rule of law and to release all the unlawfully detained immediately.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation condemns the military’s coup that has destroyed the country’s constitutional order and will closely monitor the situation to stand for democracy with the people of Myanmar in solidarity.
